How living factors can have a direct affect on home décor.

At Indesign Furniture we love exploring and researching new trends for the upcoming months.

We’ve been scouring the internet, using our own resources and our employees’ fantastic knowledge to bring you our predicted trends for this year!

A large factor that is sure to change the way people shop is the Cost of Living Crisis that has hit the UK. A direct effect of this is people having to downsize homes, rethink living situations and be more careful with their spending.

Instead of buying a whole new collection, people will only be buying what needs replacing as a result of this. One unique item of furniture can give a room a new lease of life, therefore due to the Cost of Living, was expecting to see these smaller changes rather than a whole renovation.

Additionally, Covid19 saw 47% of employees working from home; three years later 24% of people still work a hybrid job. To the people who are spending more and more time at home, it's imperative that their home environment is positive and peaceful. We expect that they will want to make subtle changes to make their homes more comfortable and peaceful, which can be done by embracing more neutral, muted and earthy tones, which are set to be a key trend in home interiors this year. Colours such as sage, almond, honey and blush will transform a living space, bringing freshness and positivity.

Another style that is estimated to dominate the furniture industry is rounded, soft shapes, such as archways, fluid mirrors and curved, cloudlike chairs and sofas. Reflecting this idea of cosiness is the large amount of boucle seating which can be seen across social media sites, and compliments neutral colour schemes perfectly.

Biophilic designs are increasing in popularity, seen through the incorporation of greenery, pampas grass, and ceramic and stone accessories. Natural wood and materials have been in high demand, such as rattan detailing and linen fabric to decorate seating arrangements. In 2022, Scandinavian and Japanese styles flourished, which is still prominent this year, continuing to create harmonious and warm atmospheres.

People are starting to understand the importance of sustainability, therefore are beginning to opt for more natural wood finishes and buying durable pieces that will last. Natural stone and marble are timeless materials, contributing to rest and relaxation, and will be seen throughout 2023.

To summarise, 2023 seems to be the year of relaxation within home decor, silencing the outside world and putting your mind to rest as soon as you walk through the door.
