Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our staff is imperative at Indesign Furniture and our sister company Chilli Pepper Designs. When working with manufacturers overseas, it is important to us that their staff are treated with the same respect that we treat our team in Bexhill. We want to work with manufacturers that have existing partnerships and advocate for fair labour rights and corporate social responsibility. This is why we only work with companies that have the following:

 

Are a proactive member of the Supplier Members Ethical Data Exchange, (SMEDEX) organisation. SMEDEX helps over 50,000 members in over 150 countries work to implement measures to protect labour rights, health and safety, the environment and business ethics. We deem it imperative to fully understand the labour standards in our partnered countries and their factories, and to help support them when and if needed.

 

Internal auditors ensure corporate social responsibility, (CSR), is met. Research has found that commitments to CRS positively relate to employee morale, fair business practices, and philanthropic responsibility. Adopting fair and ethical business practices can range from offering equal pay, exceeding minimum wage and supporting people outside the workplace. We believe that diversity in the workplace should be standard. As well as correct training to be carried out prior to starting work. Therefore, Indesign Furniture regularly check in with our oversea businesses and that they are adhering to the CSP.

 

Ceo and founder Neil Buckley-Jensen travels to our manufacturers in India annually, to ensure that the factories meet health and safety guidelines, human rights practices, and in general, maintaining happy and healthy employees. We have weekly online video meetings with our employees in other countries and have grown a fantastic relationship with them, which, is so fantastic, we would consider it a friendship. As well as this, we work closely with local schools and assist in any way possible, expanding and exploring healthy relationships with everyone we work with.

Due to the fact that our factories are based in India, at Indesign Furniture and Chilli Pepper Design, we ensure that all our staff understand the importance of other religions and consider this when we do our staffing calendars. We respect all religious holidays and make exceptions for annual leave requests surrounding dedicated days for religious purposes.
